"I would have written a shorter letter, but I did not have the time"
- Blaise Pascal, 1657
In a time when face-to-face interviews span continents, and self-driving vehicles drop off candidates for the in-person kind, I find it a bit ridiculous that grandpa's resumé still does the trick.
And cover letters? Now that AI is in the room, even the "Notting Hill approach" needs an update:
"Dear Company,
I'm just a guy... (with a robot…)
standing in front of a recruiting manager... (also with a robot…)
asking you to consider him."
So, instead of the “spray and pray” approach to job applications that's currently en vogue, I’ve chosen an alternative strategy of self-promotion: building a website.
Will it work? I'd like to think ATS-formatted .docx files aren't the only way to earn a rose from the latest AI recruiting software, but maybe I'm just a silly resumé-romantic.
Like this website, I’ve never loved the idea of building a career from a set template. Instead, I've assembled something more like a collage: a non-linear compilation of experiences, pursuits, proficiencies and pivots; fine on paper, but fascinating on canvas.
Embracing iteration and intuition can feel like only gravity is guiding you. But as chaos finds choreography, and falling from one place becomes flying at the next, the work we pursue has a miraculous way of delivering us right where we should be.
In a career spanning luxury hospitality, international tourism, emerging technology, creative production, and commercial advertising, I’ve witnessed a consistent, unifying theory at every stop:
Creativity captivates. Service differentiates. Equity motivates. And hospitality, in every sense, never goes out of style.
As homogenizing trends filter versatility and character from the work force, I remain steadfast in the belief that spectrums are just as vital to productivity as specializations. Between all that falling and flying, I’ve developed a skillset ideal for roles requiring creativity, strategy, collaboration, relationship building and service. Present in every role or title I've held is my collective experience in managing clients and accounts, connecting with new audiences, directing complex operations, and crafting compelling written and visual language for the stories of others as if they were my own.
Over the years, I've joined and led impressive, mission-focused teams who embody the communities they serve. I've thrived in environments where the challenge of “why not?” converges with a culture of collaboration, quality, and calluses. Have a question? Ask. Never done it? Try. Never heard of it? Youtube.
I've learned by the example of leaders and mentors who meet intensity with calmness, quell panic with confidence, and balance the seriousness of their craft with a refreshing breath of wit and humor.
While you're here, I hope you'll check out the places I’ve been, the portfolio of work I’ve produced, and the collection of articles and copy I've contributed to websites, publications and campaigns.
Most of all, if you have an idea budding or opportunity brewing, please reach out through any of my contact links below — let's see what kind of magic we can cook up together.
